Health Impact Assessment (HIA) Development for the Asian Development Bank
|
|
eSYS was contracted to examine the usefulness of the HIA as a set of methodologies for helping improve the health impact of public and private project investments, with some exploration of whether this is also applicable, more in general, to ADB plans and policies. The outputs from the project were used as background for the Healthy Borders meeting on 5-7 August 2013. This meeting included a discussion on HIA of development projects, in particular those in border areas. The Greater Mekong Sub-region's contiguous borders and opportunities for development in several countries have already resulted in major population movements through new economic corridors often created by economic opportunities such as large infrastructure projects and employment in new industries such as mining, agriculture and construction. Increasing economic integration, ease of transport and increased connectivity among populations directly and indirectly affect the disease dynamics of the region and increase the opportunities and challenges of tackling progressively complex health problems.
